The Combo

This year was exceptionally busy for us in the Spring.  I am grateful that all our people made time for an Easter gathering and celebration of Spencer turning 3.  Somehow those things happened in the SAME week and we got to gather and celebrate both our Risen Savior and this sassy pot.  She insisted on wearing her Elena dress for the celebration and egg hunt.
See below.

Hollywood.

We visited the mouse this trip.  Hayes and Libby ran right to him, Spencer wasn't sold on the idea.  She eventually came around, as long as Daryk was holding her.

The night we went to see these lights was the day after my Dad had called me to let me know that my grandmother had passed away.  I sobbed and sobbed while seeing them.  I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love Christmas and Christmas lights.  I love them.  I love the whole 2 months before Christmas.  I started shopping for Christmas this month.  It is July.  I mean business.  So to have an emotional attachement to something so amazing and then to have such an emotional day, it was pretty outstanding.  I literally walked up that street and listened to those songs 3 or 4 times.  I had tears streaming down my face and I just stopped to stare.  I'm sure people probably thought I was nuts, but it was amazing.

Turkey Break

There were a couple of things worth celebrating over this break and a couple of things that were equally heartbreaking.

This is my brilliant cousin Caleb and my gorgeous sister Kitty! We were celebrating Brandie's wedding to Devin.  It was a quaint wedding with a special set of guests.  I count it the highest honor that I get invited to weddings of my family and friends.  I LOVE weddings and I know that so many people have such a hard time deciding who to invite.  I know that people lose sleep and worry about hurt feelings and agonize over their guests.  I adore being among the chosen and actually getting those invitations!  I will do anything I can to attend them all!

And then there is this kid who apparently doesn't know that you can sleep in on breaks.
Suns up so I'm up MOM!
Wretch.

I got to spend a few evenings sitting in the woods with my daddy.  Yes, I hunt deer.  Yes I wear makeup while doing so.  And of course I had in my pearl earrings.  What if I killed something?  I would need to look cute for pictures.  I am so grateful my daddy took time out of this week, which was possibly the worst of 2015 for him, to spend some time with me.  We didn't see the first deer to shoot, but it was good quality time together.

Halloween this year was awesome.  We attended the festival at Ephesus Baptist Church down the road and then spent the early evening of Halloween at our house with some cousins and our family friends.  It was an awesome evening and we had a BLAST!

The truth.

Ok.
So this one is bound to ruffle some feathers.
I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, but this has GOT to come out.
This corner of the www is mine and you don't have to come back to read again if you don't want to.
I won't get my feelings hurt, promise.

About a month ago-ish I buried my grandmother.  And I loved that woman, with all my heart.  I loved all the things she did with her life.  She was a champion fighter and she fought a long hard battle.  She stayed a lot longer than I ever imagined she would and I feel like she got a whole life's worth.  She was a strong lady and I admire her wit.  She spent hours, days, weeks, and sometimes months in a hospital bed due to her illnesses.  They were plenty and enough to knock all of us down sometimes, but she fought with grace and a little bit of sass until the end.

The funeral service was lovely.  The memorial at the funeral home was lovely.  I felt as though the funeral was a lie.  The pastor rambled along about how she was a woman of God and how she showed His love and lived for Jesus.  Well folks, if she did that, I never saw it.  I never once saw His love or life in her.  I never heard her speak His name.  If we questioned her relationship with Jesus and her thoughts on heaven... it was a quick response of 'I'm a good person and I've never killed anyone, so I'm going to heaven.'

Quite frankly, that's not how it works.  Now, I cannot speak of her salvation because I was never courageous enough to ask her about it.  But I should have been.  I did not and I'm ashamed of that.

But I'll tell you something I learned while sitting in that pew in that little white church in the middle of nowhere Alabama....

I learned that when a pastor gets up at my funeral I want him to ramble about all of those things I mentioned above and I don't want ANYONE in that audience to have a doubt about what he's saying.  I want to shine so bright for the Lord that there is no question about how I feel about Him and how I display His love.  I am trembling while typing this at my computer y'all.  This is hard stuff.  To sit at your grandmother's funeral and have your heart ripped apart because God is using that woman to teach you from beyond, it is powerful.  Maybe she did know Him.  Maybe she did believe in Him and trust Him with her life, but y'all.  I never saw it.  Not in my childhood, not in my adolescence, and not as an adult.

I love that woman so much.  Her humor was perfect.  She cussed like a sailor and she was a joy to be around.  She embodied family and the glue that held it together.  Her legacy is a million miles long and I am so grateful that she was here and able to meet all my babies.  How fantastic is that?  She had 12 great grands... I think.  Forgive my math... It isn't the best.

The bottom line is that I do not want there to be a single doubt, not a tiny bit of hesitation about my life.  My words, my deeds, my songs, my work, my actions, my choices, my habits, my books, my family; my whole entire life.  I want it all to bring glory to Jesus.  And when I die and people are at my funeral (sans body--no casket for this girl) I want the truth to be so evident that nobody even needs to talk about it.  It just is.

Great Grands

There are a lot of things that my Granny taught me.  There are a lot of things we did WITH her and my Pop that are special.  I don't remember one single thing she ever bought me for Christmas.  Ever.  Or even my birthday.  I do remember that she taught me about money and how to save and spend.  She showed me how to write a check and how to balance my check book.  She taught me too many recipes to even recall.  Her love is huge.  Her heart for God is huge.  Her passion about others knowing Jesus is amazing.  I love her more than words can possibly even say.  I love that my people get to see her and love on her.  I believe they were discussing how to read a watch at this moment in time.  She probably taught me that too.  We stopped by after church for a really quick visit.

We got in a good visit with June and Percy.  I am so thankful that they aren't too far away.

And well, she had fun too.

Bday cookie

We had an impromptu shopping trip to get my MIL a new fridge on Spencer's actual birthday.  I didn't really have a special plan for her day to celebrate.  I'm not a good 'celebration planner' and I truly hate birthday parties, so mall dinner was a good plan for us.  After feeding the crazies dinner and letting them run off energy at the mall infested playground... I got a cookie for Spencer.
I think she liked it.

It was a great birthday investment and possibly the messiest thing ever.

But this little squish face enjoyed every bite and then some, so we will call it a win.

Walkers for Life

This sweet girl got to go visit my sweet grandmother while she was in recovery at the hospital.  Spencer had the very best time walking up and down the hall with Grandma's walker.  Who knew those things were multigenerational?  I had no idea.  I'm not sure who was more pleased, Grandma or Spencer... either way... It was awesome.

Punkin

I have nothing to say about this child.
She is out of control crazy.
She loves the same way; out of control and crazy.
She is the sweetest little girl when she chooses to be.
She's dramatic and exhuasting and bossy.
None of those things are negative, they are just HER.

I'd venture to say that this guy is her all time favorite person, after me of course.
All she has to do is ask and he pretty much gives....

Perfection in a train hat and Christmas pajamas.
There isn't a whole lot else to say about this one.
I want to make sure that I never forget how she puts emphasis on some of the strangest syllables and uses some of the best vocal inflection I've ever heard.  She is the most pleasant child with the best manners ever.  She isn't typically disrespectful, but she has her moments of out right defiance.  She spends more time asking questions than anything else all day long.  She is happy to help and a fantastic sock matcher, folder, and can put clothes up like a champ.  She doesn't like to brush her teeth or hair.  She likes a bath in place of a shower.  She loves lotions, lipsticks, and anything that  might sparkle a little bit.  She is fierce.  I predict she will rule the world, or at the very least, create a great one for us to live in.

Family Weekend

I went out of town for a conference for work.  I got the following pictures while I was gone.
Dinner Friday night.... with Kendall, their BFF cousin.
Shopping on Saturday with Grandma at Walmart.  I cringed at this photo as I would need meds to shop at Walmart.  On a Saturday.  With my children.  Yikes.

But it looks like they had fun and were sweet.

The day I had a toddler at birth.

Busily trying to distract myself in pre-op.  Notice I'm STILL WEARING MY WEDDING RINGS.  File that under things that never happen the morning of delivery.... I was BEYOND ready for that child to come out of my belly.  I was also shocked to discover that I was contracting pretty good that morning.  Once I was hooked up to the millions of monitors I learned that.  Too bad the contractions just hurt my belly and produce ZERO dilation for delivery.  And all the time I thought Spencer kept moving around, but I was wrong.  Contractions.  I had the best pre-op experience possible.  We got there SUPER early (much to early for my liking) and I was more than ready to go.  I was also more than ready to eat.  That's the worst part of a surgery, not eating after midnight.  I didn't cheat this time.  No food or drink after midnight for real this time.  I've cheated with the other two.  I'm a rebel like that.

Arrival at Northside:  6:30 a.m..  Actually, we were kinda early.  Huge thanks to Emily and Doug for letting us stay in their guest suite the night before.  It was so easy to drive the 2 miles over at 6 a.m.  We were parked, checked in, and ready to go around 6:45 a.m.  We stayed in pre-op for a bit since it was a busy day.  Funny, 4-14-14 was a really popular induction and c-section day.  It was my 2nd choice, but it worked.  My surgery was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. but we had a bit of a delay since they were so busy!  I got wheeled back and they started surgery.  I had a fabulous anesthesiologist and my doctor is always fabulous.  I love her dearly and I do mean that.  She is a wonderful person who is so *warm* when dealing with my healthcare and babies.

She narrated the whole process and we were done with delivery around 9:03 a.m.  I heard that time and was betting that was Spencer's weight, but I was wrong!  Spencer came out kicking and screaming, a sign of things to come?  She also promptly peed on the warming bed... so that was fun.  She got checked out and sent to recovery after that.  I got put back together and sent to recovery myself.   My big kids both had breathing distress upon delivery, so I didn't get to hang with them during recovery.  They both spent about 4-5 hours each in the transition nursery.  Spencer was perfect and I got to watch her get a bath while we were both in recovery.  I also got ice chips!  Praise Jesus!

They weighed her in recovery.  9 lbs. and 9 oz.  Child was a small toddler at birth.  I could NOT believe how big she was!  No wonder she hurt so bad!  She is perfect!

First photo of her after birth.
Yes, I have on makeup.
I'm not a fool.
I know there will be pictures that day and I planned to look good.

Welcome to the world Spencer Brynne Cochran.
You complete my Cochran family and I love you more each day.
I hope we are as good to you as you are good to us.
