Goals 2019

I have started compiling a list of goals for each year, thanks to my amazing lifelong mom friend, Evan.  She is exceptional at crafting goals and making them work for her!  I have been following her example with goal setting, now I just need to follow her example in goal completing....

So, here's my list for 2019.  I want to focus more on taking care of myself and my health so that I can take care of my family and enjoy my life.

  1. Read a book to the kids, with the kids at least 3 times a week.  Often, bedtime is so rushed and that time to connect needs to happen.  I need it and they need it too!
  2. Exercise 4 times a week.  I'm going to make this a top priority because it will help with my physical, mental, and social health.  It makes me a better wife, mom, and teacher when I feel good.  And we all know what Elle Woods said about exercise and endorphins...
  3. Plan trips, not gifts.  I want to put a plan in motion to go DO THINGS with my people.  I would like to cut back on the things and make a point to go to places with them.  See another later goal that ties into this...
  4. Simplify things.  Clean out closets, storage containers, and cabinets.  Donate or sell items that can be useful and clean out garbage that is no longer useful.
  5. Read 2 books a month.  One to help me and one for fun.
  6. Track macro nutrients every day to maximize health and weight loss.  I plan to focus on my health this year and establish better habit with my diet and my fitness.
  7. Run 5 5 ks this year.  Health y'all.  It is so important and I plan to maximize mine this year.
  8. Well checks and doctor visits for my children need to be a priority.  We rarely do those as recommended, because they are pretty healthy.  We need to schedule them as they should be done and follow through.  I will make that happen.
  9. Have a friend night once a month.  With my new neighbors, with old friends, with women I love.  I love having a community and I know that I need to make connections regularly.
  10. Join a small group at church and find a place to serve.  I love my church and our church family.  I have been out of the loop with service for a while, and I miss it.  I would like to find a place for that again!
  11. I am going to prepare one new recipe weekly this year!  I love the kitchen and I love being able to cook new things, so I feel like this will be fun!
  12. Host a family lunch once a month.
  13. Finish things.  The book shelves, the hanging of the decorations, printing of the pictures, projects I begin...
I am straight copying a few goals from people I follow via social media, but they fit me perfectly!  I cannot wait to journey through 2019 and improve myself as I go.  Thanks for following along and being a blog friend!

Goals: October Update

  1. Grow produce this summer.  Start a plan in March and proceed forward with tomatoes and peppers for the summer.  I think I can handle two things.

    Things that didn't happen...
  2. Clean out and organize one room each month.  It will break my little hoarder/sentimental heart to trash some of the things, but it needs to happen.  Starting in the girls' room tomorrow morning.  Closet and drawers need attention.  Hayes' room is in February.  Bathrooms upstairs in March... that's my first quarter done...

I have removed a lot of clutter from our home, but we still have a LONG way to go!
  3. Paint the rooms... living room, office, dining room... and patch the ceiling kitchen.  While you're at it, let's just go ahead and fix the wires in the living room too., okay?  And purchase new furniture for the living room.  I decided all house updates had to go in the same goal, so I'll have to also repair the master bath wall/ceiling as well.

Kitchen ceiling patch coming up.  Dining room will be done at Thanksgiving.  Possibly my office too!  The front entry way will get done with the cheer judging money!
  4. Exercise for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week.  Dance parties in the living room count as cardio.  Running counts.  Weighted toddler carry time does not count.

    Yeah, no.
Still a no.  A hard no.
  5. Become a Mary Kay sales director.  I desperately want to work a job with some flexibility for my family.  I also really like Mary Kay and the company.  Products are good, company philosophy is good, and the atmosphere is positive.

Still a legitimate goal.  Still thinking about it a lot, but rarely do the WORK required for it.  I need to work on that.
  6. Plan a trip to Disney for 2016.  Purchase a $100 Disney gift card each month to start piling money away for it.  Kroger fuel points AND a Disney trip.  Two birds;  one stone.

We went in June with my parents!  It was super fun and super hot.  I am working towards a Disney trip in 2017.  I get to travel with my club kids in November!
  7. Complete a Bible reading plan.  I'm looking at a few, but I'm open to ideas and suggestions people!

I'm a spotty reader at best.  I still love Jesus Calling and I read it sporadically... at best.
  8. Schedule a fun date with Daryk each month.  I'd really like to call it my Groupon event... I would love to buy a Groupon/Living Social/Scout Mob date and go do something different each month!  January and February are so difficult because of wrestling, but we can figure something out!

We have been more intentional about spending time together!  We need to work on going out and doing grown up things!
  9. Plan and HOLD 5 Mary Kay Skincare and Glamour classes each month.  Who wants to come over and play makeup with me!?

Still working towards this as well.  I need to up my MK game.
  10. Develop a family routine/plan and follow through with it.  Weekly plans in progress now...

Daily checklist charts have been implemented.  Everyone likes stickers!

Goal Updates: March 2016--more like April.

  1. Grow produce this summer.  Start a plan in March and proceed forward with tomatoes and peppers for the summer.  I think I can handle two things.

I should start that now, right?

I am making major progress with this goal!  Playroom done.  Kids clothes done.  My closet done.  Working on the rest of the house a little at a time.  We got a MAJOR upheaval in April since my sis and bro in law are going to be sharing our space for a bit... So we had FORCED cleaning out of some space.  It was MUCH needed.

Living room done.  Dining room next.  Ceiling patching and repair and repaint in June.  New furniture was gifted to us in April!
  4. Exercise for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week.  Dance parties in the living room count as cardio.  Running counts.  Weighted toddler carry time does not count.

    Yeah, no.
  5. Become a Mary Kay sales director.  I desperately want to work a job with some flexibility for my family.  I also really like Mary Kay and the company.  Products are good, company philosophy is good, and the atmosphere is positive.

Still a legitimate goal.  Still working towards it.
  6. Plan a trip to Disney for 2016.  Purchase a $100 Disney gift card each month to start piling money away for it.  Kroger fuel points AND a Disney trip.  Two birds;  one stone.

Nope.  Not yet.  I'm only 4 months in, so I can start now... right?

We do this by default, but not as organized as I would like for it to be!

This seems impossible, but I will keep working towards this goal and complete it eventually.

Take 2... Take 57.... #willshouldnotbeinchargeofthecameraever

I was blessed with two baby sisters.
God saw fit to give me a few more soliders in my sibling army, but these girls are the originals.
Bless them.
They have been my little sisters for 30 and 26 years.
I wouldn't want to do life along with ANYONE else.
Both of them happened to marry really fantastic guys.
Occasionally we get to enjoy time together!
This dinner was a FIRST for all of us and it was awesome!
I so enjoy spending time with the guys and the girls too!
The conversation was interesting and the laughter never stopped.
After dinner we ventured off to dessert....
And we asked Sir William Pitts to come take our photo.
There were about 90 pictures that looked like this one below... before we got to the ONE shot that looked acceptable.

Just one shot.

most of them look like this...

Man, I love these people.

Weddings

Y'all.
I love weddings.
I also love that I live in Georgia and can say that 'Y'all' is a complete sentence.
Because, it is.
I so enjoy spending time with people at weddings.
I like dressing up and dancing.
I like that people are mostly happy at weddings.
The smiles and tears shared are always full of joy.
I seriously had a blast at this wedding.
We enjoyed spending time with Flat Leigh Anne and Flat Buddy.
The bride and groom are awesome people and I love them both dearly.
Not to mention, they look fabulous together and I seriously love them both.

Probably the best night of the summer.
Hands down.

Hakuna Matata

A week before I went to have Spencer Brynne at the hospital I took Hayes to see THIS!  Mom was able to get tickets for us to go and enjoy this fantastic show.  We had dinner at Chick fil A on the way into the city and then we met Buddy and Leigh Anne at The Fabulous Fox theatre.  Hayes was thrilled to see those two and just as excited to see the show!  He was totally convinced that the large truck below transported those 'animals' back to the zoo once they were done with the show.
He loved the sign outside the theatre and talked about it several times after we left.
I am so thankful that I was able to have some one on one time with Hayes before we had a baby girl.  The look on his face once those 'animals' came to life inside the theatre was amazing.  I know it brought me to tears!  It was super special that we got to share that time with Leigh Anne and Buddy!  If you've never seen that show, do yourself a favor and GO NOW.  It was one of the best shows I have ever seen and my 4 year old LOVED it!

Date

I made reservations for these two to go to Chick Fil A a few weeks ago for a Daddy-Daughter Date.  I believe she had more fun than she thought she would!  I let her pick her own outift and supervised, just to make sure she didn't look like a colorblind person who has no concept of pink.  I also let her wear this sweater, which she loves.  She was SO excited to go on a date with her Daddy and even more excited when they gave her ice cream.  I hope that they spend lots of time 'dating' in the years to come.  I know that he will be able to teach her lots of things about how all the men in her life should treat her.  I pray daily that she embrace the qualities God gave her.  I know that her stubborn attitude will one day come in handy.  One day when peer pressure is strong and she's being asked/told to do things I'm not happy with.  Her 'I do it by myself-leave me alone-I can make up my own mind' attitude will be beneficial to her.

Right now, that attitude is trying for my parenting... but I'll take it.

Hayes Date

The ELC always does Father's Night for the kids at school.  They aren't in school for Father's Day, so dads get a special night once a year. Luckily, our times didn't overlap and Daddy was able to enjoy time with both babies!  I got time with my big baby boy while his sister was on a date with her Daddy at school.  We went to Yogli Mogli (which is ice cream mountain if you ask Hayes) and he ate sprinkles.  I'm pretty sure he had 2 actual bites of yogurt and the rest was sprinkles.  He also talked with the girl who worked there about her big belly like mommy's.  I hope she was really pregnant...
It isn't a good night our unless you get some selfies.  We took a few, just in case.

I don't even know how he makes this pirate face all the time, but he does.  It is now his signature face.  I give up trying to fix it or deal with it.  I just have to laugh.

I love free stuff.

A few weeks back I got an email from Fandango asking if I'd like to go to a **free** movie.

Uh, yeah.  Duh.
We love free.

So I filled out the info and a few hours later got confirmation of our tickets!
Two FREE tickets to see Olympus Has Fallen
Did I already mention I love free?
Plus it had some amazing humans in it.
Gerard Butler (he's in my top 5) and Morgan Freeman (who I love dearly).
And Ashley Judd, who's politics are crazy, but I still love her.

Last night we waited for the babysitter to arrive (thanks Hope) and then headed out.
We drove across town, yes I'm from the sticks, and had dinner with my baby sister.
We ate at this cute little corner cafe La Madeleine.
I was a teensy bit worried that husband wouldn't find anything to eat there.
Thankfully he chose the ham and cheese sandwich...
ohmygoshdeliciousfood.
I had a chicken salad sandwich on croissant, which is my most favorite bread ever.
And I really love bread.
Like, a lot.
A lot a lot.
More than any other food.
Daryk got ham and cheese and it was amazing!
Leigh Anne had a salad.
I'm sure it was good, but I was too busy shoving my face with my sandwich to notice salad.
After dinner we did a little casual shopping at the local Goodwill.
We all had pre buyer's remorse and didn't even buy any of the things we had in our hands to purchase!
Oh well.
We headed across the street to the theatre for the screening after our shopping trip.

The movie screening mafia was out front taking tickets.
We had to power down our cell phones and get passes to go use the potty.
No joke.
I felt like my students.
No phone and a potty pass.
High school all over again, except I didn't have a phone, instead a pager.
Y'all remember those!?
Mine was green and it was awesome.
It survived not one, but TWO wash cycles in its lifetime.
My iPhone barely car survive a little splash of water.

I'm easily distracted.
Geez.
So the movie passes said to be early, and we were.
But we were late-early and had to sit in the front row of the theatre.
I'm pretty sure my forehead wrinkles grew exponentially while we watched that movie last night.
The movie itself was amazing!
Action packed, and lots of American pride present in the film.
Action from start to finish and a few predictable things, but it was very well played.
I don't want to give away too many details, so y'all go see it.
Or rent it on Netflix in a few months.
Or Redbox it later on.
It was well worth the free trip we took and I'd pay money to see it again!
The actors were great in their roles.
It was really neat to be able to see a movie a week before the release as well!
I felt kinda important, but not really.

I was just pleased to finally have all that Fandango spam mail pay off!
I'll never complain about the excessive emails again.
Wonder if I can continue to get free tickets....
